hi. my name is sarah jane rhee. this is my website. i started this site back in march of 2002 to house my denison witmer photos. denison is one of my favorite indie artists. i got hooked on live music photography after shooting a couple of his shows. that led to one thing after another and now here i am...

this site is mainly for my
blogger and my photos...

let's see...where shall i begin? i guess with the top of my head would be a good place to start...my hair (on my head) used to be as long as my legs until i went to get it trimmed & the stylist's idea of a trim was chopping off a foot and i didn't know until it was all over. i never blow dry and seldom brush my hair. i hate to dress up. i love blue jeans.i don't paint my finger nails. blue is my favorite color. i tend to walk very slowly and carry a camera. i love being outdoors. i sometimes wander aimlessly. i love to travel, preferably to national parks or other places with large bodies of water, mountain ranges or both. someday i will learn how to sail. i love to photograph water. i am not a neat freak. i usually shower in 7 minutes. i grew up in the chicago public school system. i drink yukon jack. in a taste test, i could tell the difference between coke and pepsi 9 out of 10 times. i drink coke. i hate diet soda. i try to drink more water. i can cook a really mean veggie chili. some days i think about joining the peace corps. other days i think about starting a punk rock band called driving by braille. today i want to be a fab asian girl drummer like miss mia of
chica-go-go/panda panda/kim or a country singer/songwriter like gillian welch.

i would really like to lead a meaningful life and have come to the realization that what we here in the u.s. have been programmed to believe as being the american dream (e.g., financial security, significant other, outward beauty, etc.) is not what satisfies me. if anything, the pursuit of such a dream has seemed to dull my inner compass and sense of truth.

i was raised in an evangelical christian home, and although that brings up many negative connotations for most people, i think i was exposed to truth in there somehow, and even though i currently am not part of a church or follow the beliefs i once thought i believed, i can't help but to keep asking the questions as to who god is and what that means to me. even though i can't see myself in a traditional church, something within me that is beyond reason and logic tells me that everything i've ever been searching for is somehow connected to this god thing. anyways, i occasionally discuss that more in detail in my
blogger if that kind of thing interests you.

the rest is pretty simple, really. i'm a girl (duh) who loves heart-tingling, intelligent, honest, downright good music, and poetry/prose that makes me think, laugh or cry. i like spicy foods. i prefer to see the world
through my camera's viewfinder. my dream is to fly without wings, but my best friend josh tells me that's not gonna happen (he's a pilot--he oughtta know), so i dream about flying a plane someday.

i have a day job where i've been for 7.5 years now and counting, and the folks are really nice to me which is why i'm still there...i love my boss because she puts up with a lot of crap from me...but it's like all the way out in lake forest, il (i live in bucktown/wicker park way in the city) so my commute is not the loveliest. i also do what i can to support some of the bands and artists i love, many of whom are associated with
the wildwood agency. i met the owner tim white at a bill mallonee concert in april of 2002 and i've met some great folks through him. i'm also a great fan of my friend derek becker  who is the booking agent extraordinnaire of satellite booking.

i drive a
2001 red subaru impreza outback sportswagon. i love my little red hottie! it's been very good to me. i need that all wheel drive cuz i'm a menace on the roads.

i love widely-varied topography (but am here in the flatlands of chicago for now) and yearn for the big wide blue ocean (my favorite is the pacific). i absolutely love to dance free-form to all kinds of music (but i can't do choreographed moves to save my life). i have been known to talk to myself. i am ALWAYS singing in my car. i like
drummers. i collect buttons. i love strong bad. someday i wanna tattoo the stars somewhere on my body.

i was given a
vintage gibson j-45 acoustic guitar and an old ibanez electric guitar but can't play either. i do love hearing my friends caleb maskell and pierre bourgeois play my guitars though because they make those instruments sing like angels. and add to their guitar playing todd kennedy's lovely harmonies and what you get is hours of audial heaven...i tried to learn the electric bass guitar, but seriously, folks, my brother jim got all the real music genes in my family. i instead support musicians by listening to and buying (tons and tons of) their music, going to their shows, photographing their concerts and sending them fan e-mail...lately though, i have taken an interest in learning to play the drums...i've been interested in quite a few drummers for a while now, so it just makes sense for me to become one...my patient and good looking drum teacher (who moonlights as my boyfriend) is none other than red ted danyluk, the former drummer for watchers and the assembly line people program...

that's really all i've got to say. you now know me about as well as i know myself. if you're really desperate for reading material, you can click here for my
blogger. please note that i may talk about anything and everything ranging from what music i set my alarm to, to stuff i read, to my thoughts on god, to whatever i happen to be going through at the time, good & bad. so if you're squeamish about people sharing their deep feelings verbally and honestly, i suggest you go look at my photos or something.
