...so moving on from lack of heat to lack of sleep...it's 5:30am on a saturday, and why am i up? well, actually, i've been up since 3:30am, when cadence woke up to feed and then decided not to go back to sleep...this isn't the first time she's done this during the past week...the worst was tuesday night when she kept me up ALL night, except for 3 fretful hours of quasi-sleep...but you know what? she's definitely worth it...i mean look at her...like how cute can you get? and her daddy's pretty cute too, eh? click on the photo to the left to see more photos of cadence and her daddy...

...she's now just over 4 months old, and she gets more and more fun as her little body gets bigger and stronger and more in control...she's growing up so fast...she had her 2nd round of shots on wednesday, and the doctor said we can actually start feeding her rice cereal...i don't think i'm ready to do that yet though...i'm gonna wait until she's at least 6 months old to introduce anything besides breastmilk...i mean, i know rice cereal is not exactly SOLID...but still...i'm just not ready to go there yet...

...so last night was a rare night out for the danyluks...i worked from home and had a chance to shower and actually put on makeup, so i told ted to call his brother dave to go out to dinner because i hardly ever get to do much more than curl my eyelashes these days and i didn't want to waste the effort i'd put into it...(originally, i was going to do a family photo shoot, and that's why i got all spiffied up, but as usual, i stayed behind the camera lens)...so we went to this little restaurant called alice and friends vegetarian cafe up on broadway just north of hollywood...ted & i haven't been vegetarian since i got pregnant last year, but dave's pretty disciplined and even tries to eat vegan when he can...i'd read online that this place serves korean bbq w/ that fake meat stuff, and i had to try it out...turns out the food's pretty good! yeah, it ain't real meat, but hey, it still tastes good, and you don't miss the meat too much...it was a nice little place for dinner, even though whoever owns it is into this 'supreme master' called chiang hai, some little asian lady who's supposed to be totally enlightened or whatever...they run this video constantly of her answering these folks' questions about life and god and enlightenment and all that biz...you know, i always get a little wary of people who go by the title 'supreme master' and who capitalize ALL their personal pronouns, not just 'I'...i mean, it's one thing if your followers do that after you're dead, but it seems a little presumptious to do that while you're still alive...apparently she has a huge korean following, and her headquarters are in seoul...those koreans...they've probably got more self-proclaimed messiahs per capita than any other nation in the world...what's that about, anyway? i remember back in college, when i visited korea, there was this bookstore that had this huge poster book of all the folks who claimed to be the messiah in korea, and man oh man, was that book thick, and some of the photos were so ridiculous...these guys wearing gaudy pope-like hats and whatnot...sometimes i wonder about my people...

anywho, if you don't mind restaurants run by people who worship human beings and who plaster the trite 'pears' [sic] of wisdom and artwork of their 'supreme master' all over their restaurant walls and tables, then i recommend alice and friends veggie cafe...unless you are a staunch carnivore...

holy schmoles, it's friggin' freezing in this apartment! the pilot light went out on our heater yesterday (we think), so it's like 60 degrees in here or something like that...i'm using this laptop as a personal heater, and i've got little cadence bundled up in fleece and fleece and fleece...we are waiting for our maintenance guy to come by and fix the heater, but it's sunday morning so i think he's taking his time, even though we called in the problem last night...our maintenance dude is this older man who recently came from poland and speaks no english, which poses a problem sometimes when you need something fixed...but he smiles so sweetly at you when he doesn't understand what you're saying that you can't get mad at him...i don't think it'll take too much english to show him what's wrong w/ our apt...once he walks in and sees his own breath, he'll get a clue...

...for now though, teddy made me a breakfast of currant scones, asparagus omelet and mimosa, so i guess i don't really have anything to complain about...yum!

...holy schmoles again! yeah, it's been pretty busy at work, and i just haven't had the energy to blog any more...a couple more weeks though and things should calm down...i hope...

...so last year around the beginning of 2004, i listed some so-called resolutions...i think i'm gonna go over that list now and see how i did just out of amusement...i'm sure if i'd known i was gonna be with child for most of the upcoming months, the list would've been totally different, or i probably wouldn't have bothered with a list like this...anyways, this is just so i can laugh at my own silliness...

sarah's 2004 quasi-resolutions and their results:

1. i will find a new apartment...well, i guess i don't really have a choice with this one, my lease expiring in march and all...but it's always nice to start a list with something you know you'll absolutely have to do... yes, i was right...i did complete this one, but not in the way i was thinking at the time...i signed a lease for a new apartment in ukrainian village the day before i found out i was pregnant...needless to say, i had to get out of that lease...

2. i will find homes for all my stray cds...i'm gonna give myself until 2006 for this one...at least i was realistic with this one...i still have another year to complete it! and i'll need all the time i can get...

3. i will donate at least 1/4 of my wardrobe to the salvation army...i don't know if i gave away a whole quarter of my wardrobe, but it was about that much...and i still have more to get rid of...

4. i will not buy any new cds until i've listened to the ones i've already bought...i have to say, i definitely did not buy as many cds last year as i normally do...the whole pregnancy and having a baby thing may have had something to do with it...teddy might have bought me more cds for christmas than i bought for myself...he got me bob dylan's bootleg series 1-3 & 4, johnny cash at folsom prison, and the latest lungfish cd...

5. i will install a new internal hard drive on my home desktop...the first step has been done already: i purchased a new 80gig harddrive 2 hours ago and it's awaiting pickup @ CompUSA... this one got done a few months ago thanks to teddy's youngest bro jason...i'm not much of a hardware type...setting up the wireless network in our apartment was about as hardware as i get...

6. i will unite all my photos onto one computer from the 3 desktops and 3 laptops they currently occupy...yeah, right...like this is ever gonna happen...especially now with cadence around, i've got even more photos than ever...

7. i will prepare 10 photos to be displayed in the public somewhere...um...didn't happen...haven't been in public myself much lately...

8. i will attempt snowboarding at least twice before the winter is over...ha! yeah, i got one session in before i found out i was pregnant...even if i didn't get pregnant, after two hours of riding the hill backwards on my ass instead of the snowboard, i decided to stick to what i know and traded in the board for skis...

9. i will read at least 2 books a month...i don't think i read quite that many books...let's see...woody guthrie's bound for glory, stupid white men, dude where's my country, einstein's dreams, bob dylan's chronicles volume one, kerouac's the dharma bums, flannery o'connor's wise blood, bruce lee the biography, katharine hepburn's autobio, f.scott's tender is the night, the fellowship of the ring, a half a dozen baby related books...not quite two a month i guess...but i'm on track this year--i've gotten through CASH the autobiography by johnny cash and the violent bear them away by flannery o'connor...

10. i will vote...i did vote...apparently, not often enough...

...well, i'm not gonna make any new resolutions this year...all i wanna do is concentrate on my new little family and be the best mama and wife i can be to little cadence and my teddy...that's enough for now, in my opinion...

...and cadence just keeps getting more and more adorable...she has discovered her high and LOUD vocal range, and she sure does love caterwauling...i think we're gonna have to start wearing ear plugs around the house...she's well on her way to being the lead singer of her own punk rock band...ok...time to feed...

...holy schmoles, my how time flies! we're almost half way through january already! so yeah, been mighty busy around here...we had a little get together on new years eve...josh & lielle were in town and so was brown john and my cousin sherline from atlanta and we hads us some fun...kept cadence up WAY past her bedtime...spent most of the night playing the bang bang who's dead game which nearly drove me & lielle stark raving mad trying to figure it out...if you don't know, i can't tell...that's the way the game goes...anywho, it was nice to resume the annual d-siblings new year's eve extravaganza, and you can expect it to happen again next year, i'm sure, with a much bigger cadence...more photos of the party are here...

...so i've finally got pages on my website dedicated to photos of cadence...it turns out that if you throw a couple of bright red fleece blankets over our ugly raggedy sofa, it makes a pretty good setting for studio-like photos for someone the size of, say, a 3.5 month old baby...i caught cadence in a receptive mood saturday morning, so we had ourselves a real photo shoot...it lasted long enough for her to get tired enough for a nap, so i got me some long desired hand and feet shots too...i love them chubby hands and feet...they're downright YUMMY...anywho, this shoot is called the apple series cuz she was wearing this really cute onesie with apples all over it...so here's the apple series in color, the apple series in black and white (yeah, i discovered the sienna setting on my camera) and the hands and feet page which i will continue to add to...in the future, links to new photo pages will be added to this here page...

...yeah, the little critter continues to amaze me with her adorableness...it's fun watching the wheels in her head spin as she looks around at the big big world around her...and she looooooves her daddy, that's for sure...teddy can get her laughing up a storm...we can't get enough of her smiles and gurgles and coos and giggles...and feeling her warm breath on your neck as she sleeps peacefully on your chest as she makes her little whistle sighs, now that's something that can melt a heart of stone for sure...

...so thing are really busy at work these days...i'm doing my best to multitask--expressing milk, eating lunch and working on the computer at the same time...i'm pretty exhausted by day's end, which is now, which is why i'm gonna stop here...

...well, just wanna say one more thing...i'm listening to the carter family right now, and yeah, they're awesome...and did you know june carter cash was cousins with jimmy carter? i always knew jimmy was way cool...ok...that's it for real now...
